Science Center Art Competition 2014

Excited by what we received the first year, we've decided to host the competition again next year.  The 2013/14 deadline is March 14, 2014.  In addition to faculty, staff, and students, art from alumni is welcome next year, provided you can get it to campus by the deadline.  (Given enough entries, we may have different categories for judging.)

This year's winning entries and honorable mentions are on temporary display in the display case in the main entry way to the Science Center.  More permanent homes for some of the pieces will be found this summer throughout the Science Center.

Thanks to everyone who submitted entries.  17 science center faculty and staff (and 1 art department faculty member) served as judges, and feedback from all who viewed the art has been overwhelmingly positive.  It's great to be able to witness the diverse talents of so many members of the Wartburg community.

Deadline extended

To allow people to get things together over break, the deadline has been extended from March 1 (the Friday before break) until March 13 (the Wednesday after break).  You're encouraged to continue submitting your finished artwork before break, but if you need more time, you now have some.  As a reminder, items should be physically passed off to Dr. Samantha Larimer Bousquet (Science Center 67), or you can give them to Mary Peters in the main science office (Science Center 107).  A short paragraph explaining the science and artist information (see below) should be e-mailed to samantha.larimer@wartburg.edu.

Announcement of Science/Art Competition

All students, faculty, and staff are invited to submit artwork that celebrates some aspect of math or science.  Any medium is permissible, provided that it can easily be displayed (on a wall or in a display case; non-biodegradable/non-toxic).  Artwork should be accompanied by a one paragraph explanation of the science shown.  Contest ends March 1, 2013.

Additional information:
1)      Entries will be judged by a panel of professors.  Evaluation will be based on both aesthetics and the accompanying science.
2)      Please do not frame artwork, unless the framing is a necessary part of your project.
3)      Submit artwork to Dr. Samantha Larimer Bousquet (SC 67) by Friday, March 1, 2013.   Your science paragraph and biographic information should be e-mailed to Samantha.Larimer@(schoolname).edu by the same date.
4)      All artwork becomes the property of the science center and may be placed on display, with the understanding that the artist retains copyright and their name will always accompany the artwork.
5)      Participants are limited to 2 entries per person.  Biographical information needed:  full name, anticipated graduation year (if student), major(s) and minor(s) (if student), position on campus (if faculty or staff).
